The Yin of sexual energy associated with expansive arousal is the pathway to pleasure through relaxation. The slowing down and the awakening of both the tender and the subtle.
The Principles of Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang are two complementary principles of Chinese philosophy, representing opposite yet interconnected. The interaction of these two principles is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe.
- Yin Energy is a passive, feminine and cool (water) form of energy representing the ‘acceptance of what is.’
- Yang energy, masculine energy is active and heated (fire) representing the ‘activity of doing’ and our attempts to change or control.
In relation to sexuality, Yin energy is associated with the feminine; female bodies and the feminine arousal system. However, its activation and cultivation extend beyond any gender boundaries. Male bodies too can activate yin energy and experience an expansive state of arousal – tapping into heightened levels of sensation and feeling and receiving nourishment to the body.
A relaxed and expansive state of arousal and the yin energy of sexuality is nourishing to the body, providing vitality and radiance.
Contraction vs Expansion.
Arousal is the the physiological and psychological state of being awoken or sense organs stimulated to a point of perception. Most of us are more familiar with the contracted state of arousal associated with the yang energy of sexuality – external stimulation, contraction and release.
Contracted Arousal
This contracted type of arousal is generally an externally stimulated form which can only be maintained for a short time. Moving through contraction towards peak states of arousal and followed by a letting go or orgasm. Contracted form of arousal can leave the body feeling drained and depleted – as eros (life force/sexual energy) is released by the body.
- Typically, it relies on external stimulation and output.
- Requires a significant amount of stimulation to achieve arousal.
- The awareness and perception of arousal are readily noticeable.
- Often accompanied by a feeling of intensity.
- This heightened state can be sustained for only a short duration.
- Results in the generation of substantial energy output and places a demand on the body’s resources due to contraction.
- Leaves the body feeling drained and depleted.
Expansive/Relaxed Arousal
Yin energy is related to a relaxed and expansive state of arousal. It is deeper and more subtle. The more relaxed you are, the more you can feel. Instead of actively ‘doing’, when we relax into our bodies, deepening sensation we tap into an expansive state of arousal, sourced from within instead of externally. A relaxed state of arousal is nourishing and provides the body with vitality and radiance.
- Rises as a self-sourced state of arousal originating from within.
- Deep relaxation enhances sensitivity, reducing the need for external stimulation.
- Often presents as a subtle sensation, and can often be missed.
- It can be sustained over extended periods.
- It infuses and nourishes the body with energy, vitality, and radiance
The key to expansive arousal is through a deep state of relaxation. Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). It is from this place we can attune to the subtle and deepen our sensitivity and capacity to feel.
